The Pyramids of Egypt, also known as the Great Pyramids, are one of the most iconic symbols of ancient Egyptian civilization. These massive structures were built as tombs for the pharaohs and their consorts during the Old Kingdom period.

These pyramids were built using limestone blocks and were originally covered in smooth white limestone casing stones, which have mostly eroded over time.

The Pyramid of Khufu, also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the largest and oldest of the three. It was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu and stands at a staggering height of 146 meters. It was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years until the completion of the Lincoln Cathedral in England.

Each pyramid is surrounded by several smaller pyramids, tombs, and mastaba structures, which served as burial sites for the pharaoh's family members and high-ranking officials. The complex also includes the Sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human, which is believed to guard the pyramids.
