Big Ben is an iconic clock tower located in the Palace of Westminster in London, England. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city and a popular tourist attraction. Big Ben is actually the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock and not the tower itself. The tower was originally known as the Clock Tower, but it was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

The Big Ben Tower is an impressive structure that stands at a height of 96 meters (315 feet) tall. It has a gothic design with intricate detailing and is made of cast iron and limestone. The clock faces on all four sides of the tower are the largest clock faces in the United Kingdom, measuring over 7 meters (23 feet) in diameter. Each hour, the Big Ben bell chimes and can be heard throughout the city.

The history of Big Ben dates back to 1858 when it was first installed. The construction of the tower took four years to complete and was designed by architect Augustus Pugin. Since then, Big Ben has served as a reliable timekeeper and has become a symbol of London's rich history and architectural beauty.

Visitors have the opportunity to climb the 334 steps to the top of the tower and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of London. The interior of the tower is off-limits to the public, but the experience of standing beneath the iconic clock face is a memorable one.

Big Ben suffered some damage during World War II, but it was restored and has continued to function ever since. It has also undergone regular maintenance and restoration work to ensure its preservation for future generations to appreciate and admire. Big Ben remains an important symbol of British culture and a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting London.
